[Saba Sports News] Carmelo Anthony suited up for six teams during his NBA career—but now he’s eyeing ownership of a franchise he never played for.
On the latest episode of his podcast 7PM in Brooklyn, the 10-time All-Star revealed he’s interested in joining the ownership group of the Washington Wizards.
“I wanna buy the Wizards,” Anthony said. “I’ll be a great owner. I’m a former player. I understand players, I understand personnel, I understand being strategic, and I understand how to build teams.”
Anthony, now 40, retired in 2023 after a successful 18-year career in which he earned over $262 million in salary. He also has ties to the D.C. area, having attended Towson Catholic High School in nearby Maryland.
While the Wizards currently sit at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with a 16-59 record, the franchise could be a smart long-term investment. Washington boasts a young core—including Alex Sarr, Bub Carrington, and Bilal Coulibaly—and has a shot at the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft, with Duke phenom Cooper Flagg in play.
Since retiring, Anthony has stayed busy—most recently landing a major TV role. Now, he’s looking to expand his post-NBA footprint by taking his talents to the front office.
