[Saba Sports News] After losing in the semifinals of the 2025 Asian Badminton Championships, Chinese player Zheng Yu played her last international match and became another world champion to leave the national team, following Liu Yuchen, Zheng Siwei, and Huang Yaqiong. In a post-match interview, Zheng Yu said that the international stage was a farewell, and her partner Zhang Shuxian would continue to move forward with her energy. Records show that Zheng Yu was originally a singles player. In 2010, at the age of 14, she opened the door to the Chinese national team with the first place in the qualifying competition. Later, due to the lack of female doubles players who dominated the backcourt attacks in the Chinese badminton team, Zheng Yu switched to doubles under the persuasion of her coach and partnered with Huang Dongping, Li Wen Mei, and Zhang Shuxian, among others. In the Paris Olympic cycle, Zheng Yu/Zhang Shuxian once became the second-ranked women’s doubles team in China after Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yifan, and their highest world ranking reached second place. However, at the critical moment of sprinting for the Olympics, they were surpassed by Liu Shengshu/Tan Ning in points and regrettably missed the Paris Olympics.
