[Saba Sports News] Recently, FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated that if the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decides to disqualify Leon from the Club World Cup, FIFA will consider having a match between Los Angeles FC and Club America to determine the spot. Leon and Pachuca both qualified for this year’s Club World Cup, but Leon was disqualified due to being part of the same group as the other club. Infantino confirmed that Leon will remain suspended from the Club World Cup until the CAS makes a final ruling, and FIFA will await the final decision on Leon’s appeal from the CAS on May 6th. If Leon’s participation is officially canceled, Club America and Major League Soccer’s Los Angeles FC will play a playoff to decide who will get the last spot in the Club World Cup. Infantino said: The case will be adjudicated by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, and we will have the final decision in a few weeks; FIFA will respect any verdict. The current plan is that if CAS upholds the original judgment of the FIFA Appeal Committee, we plan to arrange a playoff between Los Angeles FC, the runner-up of the CONCACAF Champions League, and Club America, the second-ranked team in the region.
