[Saba Sports News] Yesterday, 33-year-old Thai badminton mixed doubles star Sapsiree Taerattanachai announced her departure from the SCG Badminton Club. She will now compete on the international stage as a free agent. Records show that she and Dechapol Puavaranukroh were once ranked No. 1 in mixed doubles and won the gold medal at the 2021 Badminton World Championships. However, after the duo split up, Sapsiree’s performance has been lackluster, and she has not achieved any notable results since 2024. In contrast, Dechapol, with his new partner Supissara Paewsampran, won the Malaysian Open Championship and the Thailand Masters Championship within just half a year. Therefore, Sapsiree wants to change her environment and regain her form. Moving forward, she will team up with Phuwanat HORBANLUEKIT, a 20-year-old Thai newcomer. Sapsiree stated that her contract with SCG has officially ended, and she deeply thanks SCG for its support over the years. Now, she is embarking on a new journey as an independent athlete. Sapsiree revealed that her passion and dedication to badminton have remained unwavering. Over nearly two decades in the Thai national team, serving the country has always been her honor. In the future, she will continue to stay true to her original aspiration and strive for more honors. She is grateful for all the sponsors who trust and support her, and most importantly, she expresses gratitude to her fans.
