[Saba Sports News] A Western Conference playoff contender has recently withdrawn from the race to acquire Pascal Siakam, the forward from the Toronto Raptors. Among the three playoff teams showing interest, the Sacramento Kings have reportedly stepped back from trade discussions, as reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic. Siakam, a two-time All-Star, presents certain challenges in a trade scenario. Notably, there’s speculation that Siakam may be hesitant to commit to an extension with any team that trades for him.
The 29-year-old, who will become a free agent this summer, is expected to pursue a substantial long-term contract with significant guaranteed compensation. Siakam has consistently performed well, maintaining an average of over 20 points per game for the fifth consecutive year. In the current season, he has recorded averages of 22.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 4.9 assists over 34 games.
While Siakam’s high-level play is evident, the Raptors seem to be gearing towards a rebuilding phase, especially after trading OG Anunoby. The team’s future seems to be centered around younger players like Scottie Barnes, RJ Barrett, and Immanuel Quickley. Trading Siakam could provide these young stars with more growth opportunities.
