[Saba Sports News] Anthony Edwards’ playoff showdown with Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors has been a long time coming.
Following their Game 7 win over the Houston Rockets on Sunday, the Warriors advanced to the Western Conference semifinals, setting up a highly anticipated matchup with Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves. As fans look ahead to the series, an old clip of Edwards has resurfaced—one that shows just how much he wanted this moment.
Before the 2023-24 season, Edwards was asked what he was looking forward to in his fourth NBA campaign. His answer was clear.
“Definitely going back to the playoffs and going further in the playoffs,” Edwards said. “I want to play the Warriors. I want to get to the Warriors. Wherever they’re at, I want to get to them. … Because Draymond talks so much trash. That’s pretty much the only reason.”
Though the matchup came a season later than he hoped, Edwards now gets his wish—and he’s arguably more ready than ever. He dominated in the Timberwolves’ first-round series against the Lakers, averaging 26.8 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 6.2 assists over five games.
Now, Edwards has a shot at eliminating both LeBron James and Stephen Curry in back-to-back rounds—an achievement that would skyrocket his status as a future face of the league.
And he’s not alone in having a score to settle. Fellow Timberwolves All-Star Rudy Gobert has his own rocky history with Draymond Green, adding even more fuel to what promises to be a fiery second-round series.
