[Saba Sports News] The Minnesota Timberwolves have gone ice cold from beyond the arc over their last two games, and not even Anthony Edwards could believe just how historically bad the team’s shooting has been.
In Tuesday’s 99-88 loss to the Golden State Warriors in Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinal series at Target Center, the Timberwolves shot just 5-of-29 from three-point range.
That followed a 7-of-47 performance in their series-clinching win over the Los Angeles Lakers — a two-game stretch that now ranks as the worst three-point shooting run in NBA playoff history. When informed of that stat during his postgame press conference, Edwards’ jaw literally dropped in disbelief.
Edwards has been part of the slump himself. He went 0-for-11 from deep in Game 5 against the Lakers and just 1-for-5 on Tuesday. The Timberwolves managed to survive their shooting woes against L.A., but their struggles from long range could prove far more costly against a team like Golden State.
The poor shooting even made Edwards a meme after Game 1, and while he’s clearly aware of his need to improve, it seems he had no idea the team had made the wrong kind of playoff history.
