[Saba Sports News] Donovan Mitchell already has his mindset locked in for next season.
The Cleveland Cavaliers star pushed through an ankle injury to suit up for Game 5 of the team’s Eastern Conference semifinal against the Indiana Pacers. Despite Mitchell pouring in a game-high 35 points, the Cavaliers fell 114-105, losing the series 4-1.
After the game, Mitchell remained alone inside a quiet Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, reflecting on the loss. He later addressed the media and was asked if he would support the Cavs bringing back the current roster.
Mitchell said he stands by every player in the locker room — and then issued a defiant message to critics and fans alike.
“Get in the gym, weight room, nutrition, whatever it is,” Mitchell said.
“Get back at it, because y’all gonna write us the f–k off, man. But we’ll be back. Let the city down, let each other down. But we’ll be back.”
With that, Mitchell ended the press conference and walked off.
Cleveland had a dominant regular season, going 64-18 to lock up homecourt through the Eastern Conference Finals. A clash with the 60-win Boston Celtics seemed inevitable.
But with Jayson Tatum suffering a season-ending injury and the Cavaliers falling short against Indiana, the Eastern Conference playoff picture has been thrown into chaos.
