[Saba Sports News] Gilbert Arenas is attributing his son Alijah’s recent car crash to a malfunction with the vehicle he was driving.
During an appearance on Matt Barnes’ All The Smoke podcast, Arenas said Alijah’s Tesla Cybertruck failed while he was behind the wheel, leading to the late April accident.
“Long story short, the car malfunctioned on him. The steering wheel went limp and he ran right into a tree,” Arenas explained.
He added that Alijah struggled to escape the burning vehicle due to its bulletproof windows, which made it nearly impossible to break out.
Footage from the crash showed the Cybertruck colliding with a fire hydrant before slamming into a tree and catching fire.
Alijah required help getting out of the vehicle and was later hospitalized, placed in a medically induced coma due to smoke inhalation. He has since been released and is on the road to recovery, with his father saying he’s now “starting to ramp it up” in hopes of returning to the court.
Arenas is considered one of the top basketball prospects in the 2025 class. He averaged 30.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.2 steals per game this season at Chatsworth High School in California and was named a McDonald’s All-American. He is committed to play for USC.
