[Saba Sports News] Converse took a savage shot at Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards in a new commercial promoting Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s signature sneaker, just hours after the Oklahoma City Thunder clinched a spot in the NBA Finals on Wednesday night.
Following OKC’s 124-94 blowout win over Minnesota at Paycom Center, Converse rolled out an ad hyping Gilgeous-Alexander’s upcoming Shai 001 shoe.
But the spotlight quickly shifted to Edwards, who was clearly the target of the ad’s not-so-subtle jabs.
The commercial featured an ant — a nod to Edwards’ nickname — aimlessly wandering, paired with a swipe at his Adidas slogan “Believe That.” The tagline read: “Nothing left 2 say? Unbelievable.”
Converse, which isn’t typically a major player in the NBA sneaker game, likely saw this as a prime opportunity to make noise — and it worked. The ad racked up more than 1.2 million views by Thursday afternoon and quickly went viral.
It capped off a nightmare night for Edwards, who was held under 20 points for the third time in five games and lost the individual matchup to Gilgeous-Alexander in decisive fashion. The ad was just one more blow on a night to forget.
