[Saba Sports News] The Denver Nuggets are undergoing a major overhaul of their coaching staff following the promotion of David Adelman to head coach.
According to reporter Chris Haynes, the Nuggets will not be retaining four assistant coaches for next season: Ryan Saunders, Popeye Jones, Charles Klask, and Stephen Graham. All four were part of Michael Malone’s staff, who was dismissed late in the regular season. Adelman, who initially stepped in on an interim basis, was later named the full-time head coach.
Saunders is perhaps the most recognizable name among the departures. The son of the late Flip Saunders, he previously served as head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2019 to 2021.
Jones, 54, had an 11-year playing career in the NBA and began coaching with the Nets in 2010. He later had stints with the Pacers and 76ers before joining Denver, where he spent the past four seasons.
Klask had been part of the Nuggets’ staff since 2018, while Graham joined in 2016 as a player development coach.
The Nuggets finished the regular season with a 50-32 record and went 3-0 under Adelman after Malone’s dismissal. They posted a 7-7 playoff record, defeating the Clippers in seven games before falling to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the second round.
