[Saba Sports News] The Badminton World Federation (BWF) just released an important news, announcing that a new format will be tested at the World Junior Badminton Championships to be held in October. The new scoring system for singles events will use a 3×15 format, with each game being up to 15 points, two wins out of three games required. This is part of BWF’s ongoing testing and analysis plan, which has already been piloted in several youth and lower-tier tournaments. The upgrade to the relay-style team event and the new 3×15 scoring system for singles make the matches faster-paced. For instance, in the team event, each set goes up to 45 points and includes five events, while singles sets go up to 15 points, resulting in shorter match durations, making the games more compact and exciting. This reduces potential monotony from longer matches, offering viewers thrilling moments and experiences, enhancing the entertainment value of badminton, and attracting more spectators. We believe this is an important part of BWF’s long-term innovation strategy, showcasing its commitment to keeping up with the times and continuously exploring development. By testing new formats in youth tournaments, it gains valuable experience for future implementation in higher-level competitions, helping promote badminton globally.
