[Saba Sports News] The New York Knicks are aiming high as they search for their next head coach.
According to Ian Begley of SportsNet New York, the Knicks are showing interest in Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch.
Since Finch is currently under contract, the Knicks would be required to provide compensation to the Timberwolves if they were to hire him — standard procedure for poaching a sitting NBA head coach.
Finch, 55, just wrapped up his fifth season with Minnesota and has compiled a 209-160 record (.566) while leading the team to four playoff appearances. He also coached in the 2024 NBA All-Star Game, a reflection of the Timberwolves’ strong season.
Convincing Finch to leave Minnesota won’t be easy. He’s guided the Timberwolves to back-to-back Western Conference Finals appearances and has a rising superstar in Anthony Edwards at the core of his roster.
Still, the Knicks job comes with prestige and market appeal. New York also has a familiar face to Finch in Karl-Anthony Towns, who thrived under Finch in Minnesota and made multiple All-Star appearances during their time together.
Finch isn’t the only big-name coach on the Knicks’ radar. Following the firing of Tom Thibodeau, the team is reportedly pursuing multiple sitting Western Conference coaches, with one already appearing to move toward a potential interview.
