Paris Saint-Germain is the reigning UEFA Champions League champion and has the potential to achieve a historic treble. In this Club World Cup, PSG’s path to the next stage has been relatively smooth, with few real challenges. For example, in their previous match against Inter Miami CF, PSG took a 4-0 lead in the first half. In the second half, the team didn’t really push forward and played in a relaxed manner, intentionally conserving energy for the quarterfinals. Under the leadership of Luis Enrique Martinez Garcia, PSG has undergone a strategic transformation, shifting from a star-driven approach to a more localized, youthful, and team-oriented style. This has resulted in a modern football system centered on high-pressure passing and control, combining flexibility with tactical discipline. During matches, when a tackle occurs, PSG quickly triggers a three-line coordination, with rapid diagonal runs from the midfield and full-backs creating a multi-dimensional attack. When losing possession, the double pivot of Vitinha Ferreira and Warren Zaire-Emery can form an immediate first line of defense within 2-3 seconds, effectively slowing down the opponent’s counterattacks. Currently, PSG’s offense no longer relies on a single core player but instead operates as a team with multiple scoring threats. In this Club World Cup, seven players have already found the back of the net.
Although Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga title again, they struggled in the Champions League. This time, they are definitely looking to prove themselves on a bigger stage. Coach Vincent Kompany, once a top central defender, places great emphasis on defensive organization and team cohesion. His tactics focus on high pressing and wide penetration, utilizing individual player skills and teamwork. Offensively, Bayern’s fullbacks often push forward, creating fluid combinations with midfielders and strikers, breaking through opponents’ defenses from the flanks and delivering precise crosses for the central attackers to finish. However, while Bayern excels at high pressing, this pressure is not always consistent. For instance, in their match against Flamengo, there were periods where the team seemed to “lose power,” and the pace slowed down. Additionally, Bayern faces a shortage of players, especially on the left flank. After their previous match, winger Leroy Sane’s contract expired, and he has already left the club. Meanwhile, another winger, Kingsley Coman, appears to have a suspected muscle injury in his left thigh. If Coman is unavailable, the left-wing position will be extremely vulnerable, as Jamal Musiala is still not fit enough to start. Kompany’s tactics are usually conservative, and he rarely relies on young players in crucial matches. It is expected that Serge Gnabry will move to the left wing, which may sacrifice his playmaking ability, as he is no longer the fast, physically dominant winger he once was. The threat on Bayern’s flanks is clearly diminishing.
Paris’ tactical system is now well-established, with strong attacking force on both sides. The “free role” striker Ousmane Dembele only played 28 minutes in this series, remaining physically fresh. In contrast, Bayern lacks a key player for ball progression on the wings, and their tactics are facing a reorganization. Clearly, the balance of power is leaning toward PSG. So we believe PSG will bring back the intensity and rhythm of the Champions League and eliminate Bayern within regular time.
