[Saba Sports News] As rumors about Max Verstappen’s future destination continue to intensify, former F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya revealed on a podcast that Verstappen’s meeting with Mercedes could not be just a coincidence, suggesting it might be a key step towards a formal deal. Previously, there were reports that Verstappen went to Sardinia after the British Grand Prix and had a private meeting with Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff. Although this information has not been officially confirmed, social media users tracking yacht and flight movements quickly noticed overlapping details, causing a big stir. Montoya stated that he doesn’t believe the meeting was just a preliminary negotiation but more likely the closing of a contract. If Verstappen really met with Wolff, it probably means the deal is already done. They weren’t there for small talk, but for signing the contract. Not only that, but it was a face-to-face confirmation of the partnership. Despite the constant speculation, Red Bull remained calm. Team executive advisor Helmut Marko, when asked if Verstappen had any private meetings with Wolff, did not avoid the question or show excessive concern. He simply said, “Verstappen can meet whoever he wants. We still have a contract, and we believe he will stay with the team.”
