[Saba Sports News] Following the transfer of Jordan Poole to Washington, another prominent member of the Golden State Warriors’ 2022 championship squad might be on the move. Tim Kawakami of The Athletic recently reported that the Warriors are contemplating a trade involving veteran forward Andrew Wiggins.
Kawakami noted that while initially it seemed unlikely for the Warriors to trade Wiggins after he signed a cost-effective contract extension to stay with the team, there’s now a shift in perspective. This change is particularly relevant if Wiggins cannot coexist on the court with [Jonathan] Kuminga, who the Warriors see as their primary small forward.
Wiggins, a former top draft pick whose commitment and intensity were once under scrutiny, had appeared to find his ideal role with the Warriors. In their 2022 title campaign, he emerged as a vital contributor, especially in the playoffs, where he excelled in challenging defensive tasks and clutch shooting. However, this season has been a stark contrast for Wiggins, marked by career-low averages and a reduction in his role, with Kuminga taking the starting spot.
Despite these challenges, including a family-related absence last season that seemed to impact his performance, the Warriors are reportedly growing frustrated with Wiggins. As a result, they are considering trading the 28-year-old, who is just a year into his four-year, $109 million contract extension.
