A Real Madrid fan account posted the previous treatment of Andres Iniesta as a comparison. During a tribute event in Japan, Real Madrid presented Iniesta with a jersey bearing his name and number 6, along with flowers as a sign of respect. Two commentators on Barcelona’s official YouTube channel said during a live stream: “We haven’t given Modric the recognition he deserves yet. His last important contribution was in the Copa del Rey final, where he provided a key assist for Jules Kounde. Here, we pay our respects!” The commentators then explained that it was just a joke, and that Modric is a great player with a glorious career. The commentators were referring to the 2025 Copa del Rey final, in which Modric passed to Kounde, who scored the winning goal in the 115th minute, helping Barcelona beat Real Madrid 3-2 to win the Copa del Rey.
