[Saba Sports News] According to GPblog, Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro has seemingly confirmed that F1 will return to Algarve, with the Portimao Circuit hosting a race in 2027. Montenegro stated that only official documents remain to be finalized. In 2020, due to the pandemic, F1 made its first visit to Portimao, and the Portuguese Grand Prix was added to the calendar. In 2021, the race returned again, and Lewis Hamilton, then with Mercedes, won both the 2020 and 2021 events. The Portuguese Prime Minister said during a festival event: “One of the biggest factors in promoting regional development is hosting major events. We have already ensured that we will host the MotoGP in 2025 and 2026. I can tell you that we are ready to officially welcome F1 back to the Algarve in 2027.” Hosting these events requires government investment, but they bring direct and indirect publicity, which is worth it, he said.
