[Saba Sports News] It’s all over in Centurion for the first Test of the ongoing two-match series between India and South Africa. Indian batters showed no fight at all in the second innings as the side lost by an innings and 32 runs, which is now their biggest Test match defeat on the South African soil.
India lost as many as seven wickets in the third session of Day 3 with only Virat Kohli (76) choosing to fight the lost battle, being the last batter to get dismissed after scoring a valiant 76-run knock.
It started with Marco Jansen knocking over Shreyas Iyer (6). When Nandre Burger, who took a four-for on his Test debut, sent the last innings centurion KL Rahul (4) packing, it made the result a formality.
All-rounders Ravichandran Ashwin (0) and Shardul Thakur (2) were shown an exit door by Burger and Kagiso Rabada respectively as Kohli was left stranded at the other end.
After Bumrah’s outdoing was caused by a run-out and Mohammed Siraj too departed soon after, Kohli had no option but swing his bat as only the last wicket rested in India’s hands. Eventually, he also perished, holing out in the deep off Jansen’s bowling as India were bundled out in 34.1 overs, losing the Test within three days.
This win for South Africa has ensured that their unbeaten Test series record at home versus India stay intact.
