[Saba Sports News] Recently, the Red Bull Racing team in F1 announced a significant piece of news: Laurent Mekies has been appointed as the new team principal. Mekies began his F1 career in 2001 and has previously worked with the FIA and Ferrari, serving as team principal for the Toro Rosso team until now. However, since the announcement of his appointment, he has faced considerable skepticism. Former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner directly questioned Mekies, stating that he will face a substantial challenge. He noted that many talented engineers have already moved to other teams, making it extremely difficult for Mekies to attract top talent back to Red Bull. Additionally, Red Bull will also be developing their own engines, which is a massive undertaking.
Steiner remarked, “I hope they don’t put too much pressure on Mekies; he’s not a god. Rebuilding may take several years.” It is reported that Red Bull chose Mekies due to his strong interpersonal communication skills, which are seen as one of his key advantages. In an official interview following the announcement, Mekies emphasized the “importance of people in the team,” highlighting his ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with team members, which is crucial for leading the Red Bull team.
