[Saba Sports News] According to British media reports, although West Ham United midfielder Lucas Paqueta was cleared of betting charges this past July, he is expected to be fined a six-figure sum for failing to cooperate with the investigation. Paqueta was previously accused of intentionally receiving yellow cards to facilitate betting by others but was ultimately cleared of match-fixing charges. However, two lesser charges – failing to answer questions and provide information to the FA’s investigation – were upheld. The written reasons for the decision are expected to be published this week, with sanctions yet to be determined. It is understood the FA is seeking to fine Paqueta approximately £150,000. Nevertheless, it’s reported that during the FA’s investigation, the player followed the advice of his club-appointed lawyer when providing relevant information and answers. Additionally, a ruling is expected on whether the FA will need to cover Paqueta‘s legal costs, which could exceed £1 million, as this investigation into Paqueta led Manchester City to withdraw their offer to sign him, despite them being ready to pay the £85 million release clause in his contract. During the recent summer transfer window, other Premier League clubs expressed interest in Paqueta, but West Ham successfully retained their key midfielder. The FA has declined to comment on the matter before the decision is made public by the regulatory commission.
