[Saba Sports News] In a major injury concern for South Africa, their captain Temba Bavuma injured his left hamstring in the opening session of the ongoing two-match Test series against India.
The incident took place in the 20th over when Bavuma tried to save a boundary after Virat Kohli drove the ball through extra cover. Although Bavuma managed to pull the ball back, the chase caused a strain in his left hamstring.
After receiving the treatment on the field, the 33-year-old was still seen in pain and left the ground limping.
“The scans have revealed a left hamstring strain and he will undergo daily medical evaluations to determine his participation in the match,” ESPNCricinfo shared an update on Bavuma’s injury.
Former South Africa skipper Dean Elgar is captaining the side in Bavuma’s absence. There is no update on when Bavuma would return back and also, there is a possibility that he could get ruled out of the series altogether.
Bavuma had injured his right hamstring in South Africa’s last league game of the ODI World Cup 2023 versus Afghanistan. He featured in the semi-final clash versus Australia not fully fit.
