[Saba Sports News] Recently, Pirelli stated that it will adjust the C6 compound before the 2026 season in response to strong criticism from Max Verstappen. Although the C6 is a new compound introduced this season, its performance has fallen short of expectations. The F1 world champion and several other drivers believe this “ultrasoft” tire is not practical enough. The C6 was originally designed as the softest tire in Pirelli’s product range, primarily for street circuits. However, at the recent Azerbaijan Grand Prix where it was used, most teams opted to save the C4 for qualifying and avoided using the C6. After the race, Verstappen bluntly stated that this tire might as well have been left at home: “I really think we should talk to Pirelli and ask them not to bring this tire anymore. It complicates the whole weekend. You have no reference data for the medium tire before qualifying, it makes no sense at all. This tire didn’t work in Monaco, didn’t work in Imola, didn’t work in Montreal. So just don’t bring it.” In response, Mario Isola admitted that the tire’s performance was mediocre: “If we have to mention a positive aspect of the C6 in Baku, it’s that it made qualifying strategy more complex. Some drivers chose the C6, others the C5. The C6 is indeed slightly faster than the C5, but the gap is very small, only about 0.2 seconds.”
