[Saba Sports News] According to official F1 reports, in the Mexico paddock on Thursday, Oscar Piastri stated that both he and his teammate Lando Norris will approach the F1 Mexican Grand Prix weekend with a clean slate. The after-effects of the ‘penalty’ Norris faced following the collision in Singapore have been eliminated, and Piastri also said he would take “a degree of responsibility” for the Lap 1 collision in the US Sprint. A chaotic first lap in last Saturday’s Sprint race led to both Norris and Piastri retiring, failing to finish the race. This left Piastri with a lead of just 14 points in the drivers’ championship, and 40 points ahead of Max Verstappen in third place. When asked if the team had reviewed what happened on Saturday at the United States Grand Prix, Piastri explained: “We’ve reviewed it again – whatever happens, we review it every weekend. I think I had a degree of responsibility in the Sprint race, and this weekend we’ll both start fresh, so just get on with it and see who comes out on top.” When pressed further on whether this meant the after-effects of the ‘penalty’ for Norris post-Singapore were gone, and if taking partial responsibility for his mistake in the Austin Sprint was due to being overly aggressive, Piastri continued: “Yes, the after-effects on Lando’s side are gone, and ultimately, that’s it.”
