[Saba Sports News] Recently, the FIA issued a statement stating that Liam Lawson was not at fault for the dangerous incident during the F1 Mexican Grand Prix weekend and refuted the claims made by the Mexican Motorsport Association, which had previously asserted that Lawson should be blamed for the near-miss with track personnel. On the third lap of the race, due to chaotic conditions at the start, two track marshals were tasked with clearing debris from the track and narrowly avoided a collision with Lawson near Turn 3. Consequently, the FIA is investigating why the marshals were still on the track at that time. The Mexican Motorsport Association (OMDAI Sport Mexico) issued a statement on Wednesday, placing the blame on Lawson. The association claimed that the 23-year-old driver did not slow down sufficiently under the double yellow flags waved due to the presence of track personnel and that Lawson should have seen them. However, the FIA subsequently denied this. The F1 governing body released a statement saying: “After analyzing the telemetry data of this incident, we can confirm that Car No. 30 driver Liam Lawson appropriately reduced speed and correctly responded to the double yellow flags displayed in that sector. He braked earlier on that lap compared to other laps and entered Turn 1 at a speed significantly lower than race pace. He was not at fault in this incident. We extend our sincere gratitude to the volunteers and track marshals for their professionalism and dedication – without them, our events could not be conducted safely.”
