[Saba Sports News] According to Spanish media reports, Movistar+ has acquired the broadcast rights in Spain for all major European competitions (Champions League, Europa League, Europa Conference League, European Super Cup, etc.) for the 2027-31 seasons. The company will pay €1.464 billion for this, equating to €366 million per season, which is 14% higher than the previous contract period. The current agreement between Movistar+ and UEFA was signed in August 2023 for three years, totaling €960 million. This tender marks UEFA’s first time opening bids to a major streaming platform. Movistar+ described this as a provisional winning bid, requiring formal contract signing with UEFA in the coming days to ensure its customers can continue watching these top European football matches. Reports indicate that Canal+ retained the broadcast rights in France, while Paramount secured the rights in the UK and Germany. UEFA aims to achieve revenue of €5 billion per season. In the current cycle (2024 to 2027), this figure already exceeds €3.339 billion. UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin stated: “We are working together to build unique and ambitious competitions, offering the most engaging, innovative, and accessible football matches to expand our main revenue sources.”
