[Saba Sports News] The Argentine Football Association recently announced a controversial decision, awarding Club Atletico Rosario Central the title of “Annual Professional League Champion.” The reason given was that the team topped the cumulative points table for the 2025 calendar year with 66 points. This is a newly established award, applicable not only for this season but also for future years, where the team leading the annual points table will automatically receive this honor. However, since its announcement, this decision has drawn dissatisfaction from many fans externally. This is primarily because the award was announced unexpectedly after the regular season concluded and before the playoffs began. Furthermore, this award was not clearly listed in the competition rules at the start of the season, nor was it voted on and approved by all clubs. Fans sarcastically dubbed them the “first team in history to win a championship in the office,” suggesting it wasn’t earned through direct confrontation on the pitch. We believe this incident highlights a clash between football tradition and modern competition formats, as well as between sporting fairness and the legitimacy of the outcome. It also serves as a reminder to competition organizers that rule-making needs to balance transparency and consensus for honors to be truly widely recognized.
