[Saba Sports News] The Aston Martin F1 team has just announced a major update: legendary design master Adrian Newey will assume the role of Team Principal starting in 2026. Concurrently, Newey will retain his position as a technical partner, integrating technical development and on-track command responsibilities. He will oversee the technical team and the operational management of the car during races. Newey will become the fourth Team Principal since Aston Martin’s return to F1 in 2021, marking the first time that F1’s most influential technical genius will formally lead the comprehensive operations of a top-tier team. The editor believes that Newey’s involvement alone injects technical credibility into the team, and this new leadership role will further streamline the link between development and execution. The current Team Principal will transition to Chief Strategy Officer, focusing on the integration of Honda’s power unit and the chassis, thereby alleviating non-technical pressures for Newey. This decision stems from the team’s poor performance last season, with the owner opting to bet on technical certainty rather than recruiting a well-known Team Principal. For Newey, who is stepping into a management role for the first time, balancing technical development and team management will be a core challenge, but the team has already established a support structure.
