[Saba Sports News] In the 23rd round of Serie A, Lazio defeated Genoa 3-2 at home. However, in protest of the team’s owner Claudio Lotito’s insufficient investment, a large number of fans were absent, leaving the stadium looking empty. Currently, Lazio is 11 points away from qualifying for the Champions League and 8 points from European competition qualification. Earlier this month, Lazio failed to strengthen the team during the winter transfer window, which made the fans very angry. Due to financial issues, the club was prohibited from signing new players last summer. Taty Castellanos and Mattéo Guendouzi left the team, and only a small portion of funds was reinvested in acquiring replacements. Even head coach Maurizio Sarri admitted that he had never heard of the new forward Petar Ratkov before.
Angry fans found a way to express themselves; during the match against Genoa, the sparse attendance made it feel like a vacant stadium. Earlier this month, Sarri spoke about the team’s issues but promised he would not resign again out of loyalty to the fans.
