[Saba Sports News] The Badminton World Federation recently announced the event levels and host cities for the BWF World Tour from 2027 to 2030. Among these, the Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships has been upgraded from a “World Tour Super 500” event to a “World Tour Super 750” event. Information shows that the levels of the BWF World Tour, from lowest to highest, are “Super 100,” “Super 300,” “Super 500,” “Super 750,” “Super 1000,” and the Year-End Finals. According to event regulations, players ranked in the top 15 in singles and the top 10 in doubles are required to participate in Super 750 events, or they may face penalties.
The ability to upgrade to a Super 750 event is influenced by factors such as venue facilities, event organization experience, financial backing, market promotion potential, and contributions to the development of badminton. Regarding this upgrade, William Tong, president of the Hong Kong Badminton Association, stated that the establishment of the BWF “Super 750” event in Hong Kong reflects the BWF’s recognition of the Hong Kong Badminton Association’s event organizing capabilities and fully affirms Hong Kong’s status as a capital of international sports events. He believes it will attract more fans from overseas and mainland China to come to Hong Kong to watch the matches.
