[Saba Sports News] Joan Laporta, president of La Liga’s FC Barcelona, is set to launch his new personal autobiography soon, titled How We Saved Barça. Written in the first person, the book reviews Laporta’s years in charge of Barcelona, focusing on the various crises the club faced during his tenure and the decisions he made to address them. It contains many long-awaited revelations, including the truth behind Lionel Messi’s departure from the club. For the first time, Laporta will disclose details of why he was unable to renew Messi’s contract, as well as the behind-the-scenes negotiations and power plays involved. The book also elaborates on Barcelona’s past financial difficulties, the club’s struggles to register new players, and the process by which Laporta eased the debt burden by selling future broadcasting rights and monetizing club assets.
In our view, this autobiography serves more as a justification for Laporta’s time in office and a carefully calibrated piece of political public relations. The title alone makes his stance clear: he frames his presidency as a mission to “save Barça,” aiming to portray himself as a strong, responsible leader and emphasize that every decision he made was in the best interests of the club.
