[Saba Sports News] The Alpine F1 team officially announced the signing of Alexander Dunne, who will join the team’s driver academy for the 2026 season. Records show that Dunne was part of the McLaren F1 driver academy for nearly 18 months before leaving the McLaren team last year in search of new career opportunities. This Irish driver represented McLaren for two F1 practice sessions during his rookie season last year. In the previous season, Dunne ultimately ranked fifth in the F2 standings. This season will mark his second year in F2. According to the agreement with Alpine, Dunne will have the team’s livery painted on the F2 car of the Rodin team, partnering with Norwegian driver Martinius Tensthorn. Regarding this signing, Dunne stated that F2 has long been proven to be the best platform for young drivers to transition to professional racing. He is very happy to join the Alpine academy, marking an important step in his racing career.
The editor believes that Dunne’s impressive performance in the 2025 F2 rookie season, with 2 wins, 2 poles, and 8 podiums, demonstrates both commercial and competitive value. He possesses media appeal and practical abilities, and signing him will help enhance the brand value of the Alpine academy.
