[Saba Sports News] According to Spanish media reports, during the friendly match between Spain and Egypt, home fans in Spain chanted anti-Muslim songs. While targeting the opposing side, this also affected Spanish players such as Lamine Yamal. The match was held at the RCDE Stadium, home of RCD Espanyol. Catalan police have announced an investigation into the incident. Spanish institutions and political figures have issued statements condemning the behavior. Notably, Yamal, like the Egyptian players, is Muslim. Therefore, the actions of the Spanish fans also amounted to an insult to Yamal himself. In football terms, Yamal is currently the face of the Spanish national team. Imagine how an 18-year-old boy must feel, playing for his country, while hearing chants from the stands like “Anyone who doesn’t jump is a Muslim.”
The editor believes that we understand that not all fans behave this way. But for those who sing such songs: making a religion the object of ridicule only makes you look ignorant and racist. Football is meant to be enjoyed and supported, not to humiliate others because of their identity or beliefs.
