[Saba Sports News] According to French media reports, Ethan Nwaneri earns a monthly salary of 300,000 euros, and the more appearances he makes, the lower the loan fee Marseille will pay. The 19-year-old midfielder joined Marseille on loan from Arsenal during the winter transfer window. He has made 7 appearances in Ligue 1 so far, scoring 2 goals and providing 1 assist. Reports say Nwaneri performed strongly for Arsenal last season, making 37 appearances, and attracted interest from many top clubs last summer. Arsenal acted quickly to extend his contract until 2030, with his new deal worth around 300,000 euros per month. However, his first-team opportunities at Arsenal decreased this season, leading him to join Marseille on loan to gain more playing time. Marseille is covering his full salary. To ensure Nwaneri gets regular minutes, a special clause is included in his loan agreement: the more appearances he makes for Marseille, the more the loan fee will be gradually reduced.
The editor believes that this is a common strategy employed by Arsenal when loaning out players. Similar clauses linking appearance numbers to a reduction in loan fees were also included in the past when loaning out William Saliba and Nuno Tavares.
