[Saba Sports News] According to Italian media reports, Italian Minister of Sport Andrea Abodi wants Paolo Maldini to take up the post as president of the Italian Football Federation. After Italy missed out on the World Cup again, Italian Football Federation president Gabriele Gravina has resigned to take responsibility, bringing about a reshuffle in the federation’s management. The Federal Council is scheduled to hold a meeting on June 22 to finalize the next leader of Italian football. There are internal disagreements within the Italian government over Giovanni Malago taking office as the federation president. Minister of Sport Abodi is evaluating other candidates and has his sights set on Paolo Maldini for the role. Initial contact has already been made between the two sides. While Maldini has considered the proposal, he is currently reluctant to accept the appointment. He believes he would be unable to wield real influence and steer the future direction of Italian football under the current circumstances.
The editor believes that the application materials for the election of the President of the Italian Football Federation must be submitted before May 13th, and the official election will be held at the federation’s headquarters in Rome on June 22nd. Therefore, it is highly unlikely that Paolo Maldini will take up the position of the federation’s president.
