[Saba Sports News] According to Spanish media reports, La Liga and the regional government of Catalonia have joined forces to oppose racism and hate speech. The two sides signed a cooperation agreement at an event held at the Palauet de Barcelona, aiming to jointly promote anti-discrimination campaigns in high-impact public spaces such as football stadiums. Earlier, during a match between Spain and Egypt, songs targeting Muslims were heard inside the stadium. Berni Álvarez, Minister of Sport of Catalonia, and Jose Montero, a representative of La Liga, signed the cooperation agreement to boost the reach of campaigns such as “La Liga Contra el Bullying” (La Liga Anti-Bullying) and “La Liga Contra el Odio” (La Liga Anti-Hate). Berni Álvarez stressed that recent racist incidents mark a turning point in the sports agenda: “We need to carry out extensive educational work and also act very decisively to prevent the situation from worsening further. Clearly, we have reached a turning point, and this event is being held at a time when everyone is paying attention to this issue.”
The editor believes that La Liga is committed to eradicating hate speech inside stadiums. It will not hesitate to expose everything it sees and identifies, and condemn such behavior. Hate speech constitutes a violation of personal dignity, and any act that may constitute a crime will be referred to the judicial authorities for processing.
