[Saba Sports News] According to Spanish media reports, Barcelona are striving to become the third 100-point champion in La Liga history. Previously, Real Madrid and Barcelona have each achieved this milestone once. Barcelona have accumulated 85 points after 33 La Liga matches and still retain hopes of reaching the 100-point mark. Their remaining five league fixtures are against Osasuna, Real Madrid, Alavés, Real Betis and Valencia. If they win all five upcoming games, Barcelona will secure a place as La Liga’s third 100-point title winner. The only two sides to have accomplished this feat before are José Mourinho’s Real Madrid and the Barcelona side managed by Francesc Vilanova. For Barcelona, the top priority at present is to seal the La Liga title. A victory over Osasuna in their next match would all but guarantee the championship. Even if Real Madrid defeat Espanyol in their subsequent game, they would still trail Barcelona by 11 points with just four matchdays left to play.
The editor believes that the pursuit of becoming La Liga’s third 100-point champion will motivate Hans-Dieter Flick and his side to maintain their outstanding form. In addition, Barcelona have no chance this season of breaking Real Madrid’s single-season La Liga record of 121 goals. They have scored 87 goals so far this campaign, still 34 goals short of Los Blancos’ historic benchmark.
