[Saba Sports News] According to Spanish media reports, Spanish police have arrested nine football fans in Navarre. They are suspected of offences including disrupting public order and assaulting public officials during unrest near El Sadar Stadium following Osasuna’s 2-1 victory over Real Madrid on February 21. The operation was carried out by the Higher Police Headquarters of Navarre. According to a police statement, the operation is still ongoing, with four arrests already made in March, plus two more made on the day of the incident. The nine detained men live in different areas of Navarre and all belong to local fan groups. Police stated that after leaving the stadium, they incited other supporters from the South Stand and eventually formed a group of around 30 people. The group threw hard objects and waste bins at three police officers near Gate 23 of the stadium, blocking the exit. Additional police reinforcements were later dispatched to deal with the violent behaviour.
The editor believes that as police entered the stadium to handle the situation, those who tried to obstruct identification refused to stop their misconduct. Instead, they assaulted the officers, forcing the police to use equipment in self-defense. Those involved in the violent acts will now face legal sanctions.
