[Saba Sports News] According to Argentine media reports, a forensic doctor stated recently during the trial into the death of Diego Armando Maradona that Maradona endured roughly 12 hours of agonizing suffering before his passing. Forensic expert Carlos Casinelli told the court that Maradona’s body showed signs of oxygen deprivation including bilateral pleural effusion and generalized edema, indicating he died from prolonged rather than sudden suffering. “It is estimated that he endured around 12 hours of agony,” he said. On March 11, 2025, the San Isidro Court in Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, held the first trial concerning Maradona’s death. However, the proceedings were annulled due to improper conduct by one of the judges. The court relaunched the investigation and trial into the case on April 14 this year. Seven medical staff members have been charged with manslaughter and may face prison sentences ranging from 8 to 25 years.
The editor believes that Diego Maradona passed away suddenly at his residence in Tigre, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina, on November 25, 2020, at the age of 60. The autopsy results released by Argentine police and prosecution authorities indicated that Maradona died of heart failure, ruling it a natural death. Nevertheless, his relatives hold the view that his personal doctor should be held responsible for his death.
