[Saba Sports News] Joey Buss, an alternate governor for the Los Angeles Lakers, made a notable appearance representing the team during their victory in the inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament. The Lakers clinched the title with a 123-109 win against the Indiana Pacers.
Speaking on behalf of the team’s ownership, Joey expressed his delight over the win, acknowledging the fans, players, and coaches, and extending thanks to “Jeanie and the rest of my family.” He concluded his speech with a spirited “Let’s go Lakers!”
Joey, one of the late Dr. Jerry Buss’s seven children, holds the position of vice president of research and development for the Lakers. His half-sister Jeanie is the prominent figure of the Lakers as their controlling owner and governor. Other members of his family, like Jesse, the current assistant GM and scouting director, and Jim, a former executive vice president of basketball operations, are also well-known figures in the family’s ownership trust.
Although Joey rarely makes public appearances for the Lakers, his recent visibility suggests a growing role in the family’s business operations, which have seen various changes over the years.
