[Saba Sports News] The Badminton World Federation (BWF) recently announced that Geelong, Australia, will host the 2027 BWF World Senior Championships. As one of the BWF’s largest participatory events, the tournament will bring together top veteran players across age categories ranging from over 35 to over 80 years old. Scheduled to take place from 28 November to 5 December 2027, the event is expected to draw around 2,500 athletes, officials and visitors from all over the globe to Geelong. BWF President Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul stated: “Bringing the BWF World Senior Championships to Australia and Oceania demonstrates our firm commitment to elevating badminton into a truly global sport and expanding competitive opportunities for players worldwide. Badminton is for everyone. We aim to make this sport accessible to all, transcending differences in communities, gender, age and ability, and this championship marks a vital step forward in fulfilling this vision.”
The editor believes that this will be the first major BWF tournament held in Australia since the 2017 BWF Sudirman Cup final.
