[Saba Sports News] In a recent media interview, LEGO designer Luka Grkovic talked about the design of LEGO minifigure sets featuring Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappé for the 2026 World Cup. He revealed that the design process spanned around two years, with the football stars themselves signing off on the final designs. The smallest set consists of 490 LEGO bricks, while Messi’s goal-celebration themed set contains as many as 1,427 bricks. Ronaldo studied his own minifigure closely when he first laid eyes on it during an advertising shoot. Grkovic spent the first three to four months of the development phase conducting extensive conceptual research, which included buildable Ronaldo minifigures and small scene builds in various styles. Each player has at least three custom-designed products: a mini minifigure with a display base, a larger hyper-realistic collectible model, and an exclusive goal-celebration set. The smallest kit comprises 490 bricks, whereas Messi’s celebration set is made up of 1,427 bricks. The mini minifigures start at £24.99, and Messi’s celebration set is priced at £159.99.
The editor believes that in the commercial, the four players sit around a table, attempting to place their respective mini-figures onto a LEGO-built World Cup trophy. Although Messi and Ronaldo did not film their scenes in the same room, this marks their second appearance together in a commercial since they shot the Louis Vuitton advertising campaign ahead of the 2022 World Cup.
