[Saba Sports News] According to Marca, at the request of new head coach José Mourinho, Real Madrid have identified Argentine international Enzo Fernández as their top priority to reinforce the midfield. Los Blancos aim to bolster their central ranks with a proven quality player, and the Chelsea midfielder sits firmly at the top of Mourinho’s transfer wishlist.
Back on March 30 this year, Enzo openly voiced his desire to live in Madrid someday. His agent, former footballer Javier Pastore, is aware of Real Madrid’s interest as well as the player’s own wishes. That said, the deal looks far less straightforward than the potential signing of Marc Cucurella due to financial valuation hurdles. Even so, Real Madrid are hoping to pull off a swift, decisive move to finalize their summer transfer plans at the earliest opportunity.
As for Chelsea, the club is open to offloading the midfielder. Their newly appointed manager Xabi Alonso has no intention of keeping any player who fails to fully commit to the squad. Nevertheless, Chelsea will not let go of one of their star assets cheaply, having placed a minimum valuation of 120 million euros on Enzo.
In my view, labelling Enzo as the “top target” is largely a product of Mourinho’s personal tactical preference and a negotiating tactic in the transfer market, rather than an unalterable long-term club strategy. If Real Madrid are genuinely prepared to shell out over 120 million euros, it signals an urgent need to reassure fans and the squad through a high-profile signing. Should they walk away from the deal in the end, it would demonstrate the club’s rational stance, prioritizing structured squad reinforcement over reckless big-name signings.
