[Saba Sports News] The Scottish Football Association (SFA) officially confirmed recently that Steve Clarke has stepped down as head coach of the Scottish men’s national football team. Having seen Scotland eliminated from the 2026 World Cup, the most successful manager in Scotland’s history brought his seven-year coaching tenure to an end. Clarke guided Scotland back to the men’s World Cup after a 28-year absence and previously secured qualification for two consecutive European Championships. The Scots opened their World Cup campaign with a 1-0 victory over Haiti, before falling to Morocco and Brazil to finish third in their group and exit the tournament. In an open letter addressed to fans, Steve Clarke voiced pride in the side’s achievements during his reign: “The most emotional part of saying goodbye relates to my players. None of the memories we have built since 2019 would exist without them. They deserve every bit of praise and respect, and it has been a genuine privilege for me to serve as their manager. Thank you for welcoming me, and I wish my successor all the best.”
The editor believes that while Scottish fans are disappointed to see their side eliminated at the World Cup group stage, we must not overlook the remarkable progress Steve has made over his seven years in charge.
