[Saba Sports News] Statistics show that the NBA’s basketball-related income has exceeded $10 billion in each of the past two seasons, standing at $10.25 billion for the 2024-25 season and $11.68 billion last campaign. Both figures are staggering, a testament to the league’s formidable revenue-generating capacity. Adam Silver has steered the NBA for years. While he has drawn criticism from fans on several fronts, NBA franchise owners are surely satisfied with his performance—when it comes to driving profits, he has delivered outstanding results. Among the NBA’s multiple revenue streams, media rights represent the largest share. The league’s two latest broadcast deals have been key catalysts behind its rapid income growth. Back in 2014, the NBA struck a nine-year, $24 billion media rights agreement with ESPN and TNT, which sent its revenues soaring. Ahead of the expiration of that original deal in 2024, the NBA inked a new 11-year media rights package worth $76 billion with ESPN, NBC and Amazon. That equates to an average of $6.9 billion per year, an undeniably massive revenue pie.
The editor believes that ticket revenue constitutes another major income stream for the NBA, ranking as the league’s second-largest revenue source only behind media rights revenue. Big-market franchises such as the Warriors, Lakers and Knicks can generate millions of US dollars in ticket sales from a single game. According to American sports outlet Sportico, the NBA raked in as much as $3.4 billion from ticket revenue alone during the 2024-25 season.
