[Saba Sports News] In the World Cup Round of 16, title favourites England fought back to beat hosts Mexico 3-2 despite playing with ten men for nearly half an hour, sealing their spot in the quarter-finals. However, the match ended on a bittersweet note for 36-year-old veteran Jordan Henderson, who suffered an injury amid post-match victory celebrations. Henderson did not feature in the fixture. Overcome with elation after the win, he walked towards the stands and attempted to climb over the pitchside advertising hoardings to celebrate alongside supporters. Unfortunately, he lost his balance and crashed to the ground mid-climb. Medical staff treated him on the grass for several minutes before he was carried off the pitch on a stretcher. Photographs taken at the scene showed Henderson receiving oxygen, a clear sign the injury was fairly serious. As soon as Henderson fell, his England teammates rushed over to check on the experienced midfielder. Captain Harry Kane spoke to reporters after the game and confirmed Henderson had taken a heavy fall, adding: “I think he’ll be alright, it’s just something with his arm.”
The editor believes that Henderson has only come off the bench for 12 minutes in England’s game against Panama at this World Cup. If he suffers a serious injury from the celebration, his World Cup career will likely draw to an early close.
