[Saba Sports News] According to French media reports, the City of Paris plans to set up fan zones for France’s subsequent matches starting from the World Cup quarter-finals. In an interview, Paris Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire confirmed the project is under review: “We are moving forward with this initiative.” The mayor explained that match kick-off times are no longer a major obstacle to opening these viewing zones. The quarter-final against Morocco will kick off at 10 p.m. local French time, while any semi-final and final France might contest are scheduled for a 9 p.m. French start. He added: “For France’s matches commencing at the quarter-final stage, we are collaborating with the police department to draw up an enhanced public reception plan.” Nevertheless, Emmanuel Grégoire ruled out the idea of building large open-air fan zones with capacity for 100,000 to 150,000 spectators.
The editor believes that such large-scale gatherings are inappropriate, especially given the high temperatures. The City of Paris has clearly prioritized alternative solutions while stating its wish to enable Parisians to celebrate together.
