[Saba Sports News] According to British media, Colombian star Jaminton Campaz has refused to fly back to his home country following Colombia’s World Cup elimination over legitimate fears for his personal safety. Colombia were knocked out in the Round of 16 after losing to Switzerland in a penalty shootout. With six minutes remaining in extra time when the score was locked at 0-0, Campaz broke clear through on goal only to blast his shot over the crossbar, squandering a match-winning chance. Though he converted his spot-kick in the shootout to salvage some pride for himself, it was not enough to turn the tide, and Colombia ultimately lost 4-3 on penalties. In the wake of this devastating World Cup exit, the 26-year-old forward was inundated with death threats and abusive messages across all his social media platforms. Reports confirm he skipped the team’s flight back to Colombia amid serious safety concerns. It remains unclear whether Campaz will stay in the United States or catch an alternative flight to Argentina, where he currently plies his trade for Argentine Primera División side Club Atlético Rosario Central, commonly known as Rosario Central.
