[Saba Sports News] The Norway national team returned to Oslo the other day and were received by the King of Norway at the Royal Palace. Julian Ryerson made headlines for showing up in flip-flops during the audience. Fresh off their flight home, most players opted for casual sportswear, including national team jerseys, shorts and trainers. Ryerson, however, greeted the King wearing nothing but a pair of flip-flops. He later posted photos of himself in the sandals on social media with the caption “Flip-flops for life”. Many questioned whether such attire was appropriate for an audience with the monarch. When asked about the incident, royal expert Ole Hansen laughed and responded: “When you’re meeting a King who’s a huge football fan and just watched his national side reach the World Cup quarter-finals, pretty much anything goes.” Hansen also pointed out that the King himself had dressed more casually for the occasion. “Our King is very laid-back and easygoing.”
The editor believes that most players have previously turned up in national team jerseys on such occasions, and their casual outfits are totally understandable after such a gruelling transatlantic journey. The Royal Palace was their very first stop after flying back from the United States, leaving them zero chance to change into other clothes.
