[Saba Sports News] Manchester United officially announced earlier that they have signed 29-year-old Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa, who will wear the No.18 shirt for the club next season. Reports state United triggered the £35 million release clause in Tielemans’ contract. The midfielder has earned 90 caps for Belgium. During the recently concluded World Cup, Tielemans captained Belgium in all five of their matches, scoring two goals. Last term, Tielemans registered seven assists for Aston Villa and helped the club lift the Europa League trophy, netting the opening goal in the final against Freiburg. Among all attacking players and midfielders in the Premier League, Tielemans ranks first for progressive carries per 100 passes, and second for through balls completed under pressure.
The editor believes that Tielemans represents excellent value for money. Even so, his true worth will only be judged by his performances next season. Interestingly, back in 2017, Tielemans captained Anderlecht of Belgium against Manchester United’s current manager Michael Carrick in the Europa League. Now, Carrick is set to be his head coach.
